Disappointed in Devon

I had been looking forward to my first Ta-Dah Moment for well over a month. I look at other folks completed projects and their final Ta-Dahs with envy and enjoyment.

Unfortunately, I now have a total downer on Crochet Blanket Number 2, which is so nearly reaching its conclusion. I'm not sure why now, but I was totally convinced that by doing a double crochet edge all around the blanket it would a) even up the uneven edges and b) fill in the horrible gaps left by the chain 3 turning chains on each row. Sadly it doesn't appear to be doing either and I can now see that it wouldn't do. I really don't know why I thought it would. Despite several people telling me how good my tension was for my first ever foray in crocheting, the end of the blanket I have just finished, is definitely wider than the foundation chain end I started with.

I am going to have to continue with the border as I reckon I have put over 100 hours into this blanket already. However, I am not sure if my perfectionist nature will ever allow me to give this to my friend as the Christmas present it was intended to be.

One nice straight edge, one with horrible holes!!
Despite the glorious sunshine and an otherwise nice day, I am feeling somewhat despondent. The holes are bugging me!!

  1. The great Muslim carpet makers of the East always make sure that there is an error or mistake in their work because they believe that only Allah can be prefect. I think your blanket is lovely and I am quite sure that your friend will not only appreciate that you have made something which has taken time, but also that you have stitched with love xx

    1. Bless You, that's a really lovely idea. I have to admit there are 3 not so obvious mistakes in it, besides the holey edges, so God still has the edge!!

      Thank you Arwedd xx

    1. I know you would, but it's probably more to do with me than the blanket and that is likely to need more help than is humanly available!! ;-)

  4. I thought it was very good; I've been crocheting for years and none of mine are anywhere near perfect!

  5. I so understand how you feel as my finished work never looks the same in reality as it does in my mind LOL, as years have gone by I have learnt a few tricks or 'magic' as FM is going to show you. Don't beat yourself up as it still looks really GOOD :) As Mrs Thrifty has said about carpet makers leaving a mistake, so do quilters, & it is fun to purposely make a 'mistake'. Cheer up & go out & soak up some rays. Sx

  6. Hello Arwedd
I am now your newest follower. I thought it would be best to call in and follow you after I saw your comment on my latest post and considering we are linking up to participate in the blanket chain. I'll be sending you my address today via email.

re: your blanket comments here....I don't see it is so very full of holes the sides can always be a bit irregular and I also agree with Attila's comment here. I look at it this way ..perfect is machine made, a mistake or two is handmade...made by a person...who has toiled at it,who has put effort into it making it a work of love and sentiment. Give me handmade any day!!!
I totally love Mrs Thrifty's comment I had also heard that to make and leave a mistake in your work brings luck!

    Keep well

    Amanda :-)

  7. I agree with Mrs Thrifty and Amanda. I can't see ANYTHING wrong with it at all. My way to fix it if I had to would be to thread ribbon round all the edges! Or bind them over in ribbon! Thanksfor the preemie link. My latest little jacket looks scruffy to me but I hope the parents love that I made it for them, with love. I'll blog it as soon as I've done it!
