Flying High

I know I must be feeling brighter today, as I found time to make half a dozen cards, including these:-

and I'm still in the mood for making a few more this evening. Although, I am also keen to finish Crochet Blanket No. 2 which seems to have been on the go for absolutely ages now!!

I also had a 'mouch' through a couple of Charity Shops today and found these goodies:-

A Double Duvet cover and pillowcases for £4.00, loads of fabric in these

A plain navy curtain for £3.00, nice as a highlight fabric.

And a bracelet £3.00 and matching necklace £1.00, ideal for a birthday pressie.

The two fabrics will hopefully go with the green and yellow offcuts from an earlier post in my first quilt, if I ever manage to get a sewing machine. I was looking at the Tesco Ej09 for £60.00 here, as I have £31.00 in Clubcard vouchers. I could consider these just a bonus, as I would have been buying my shopping anyway, even though I would only get face value for them. What do you guys think?

I am also in need of advice regarding airplane flights. I know folks will think we are slightly mad, given our financial situation, but we are thinking of saving for a special holiday next year around May. However, the cheapest price I can see for flights so far is £1800. This seems astronomical. Does anyone know a way to get cheaper flights?

Lots of Love Arwedd xx

Sorry might be better if I ask this on yours, as not sure if you will come back here?!

  2. Your card with the bird cage is beautiful. You found some great bargains at the charity shop, the bracelet and necklace are really pretty. I had a peep at the machine on sale at Tesco. It looks like a good machine for the price and lots of people have given really good reviews. Hope you enjoy the rest of week.

    1. Thanks Ali, I also went to a Quilting shop today and the cheapest fabric they had was £15.00 a METRE!!! Needless to say I didn't buy any. Much happier with my bargains.

Thanks for becoming a follower, I am trying to return the favour, but Blogger keeps telling me to try later. So I will.

  3. where are you flying to?

The Tesco machine looks relatively lightweight - the foot pedal has not had good reviews. I think I'd try and put a bit more in and get a Toyota or Brother machine.
For our Sewing Club, the Church bought the girls two of the basic John Lewis machines [£99] and they have been utterly brilliant [JL machines made by Janome]
But I can see that if you have £30 of vouchers [maybe you should use them another time when you can get double value or something - and buy your machine elsewhere?]

    1. Thank you, will maybe think again and use the Tesco vouchers for Restaurant vouchers as I normally do because these seem to attract 4 times the face value, so best exchange rate!! It's nice to have more experienced opinions on these machines, as I don't really know what I am looking at.

The flight would be UK to Florida.

      Thanks again Arwedd xx

  4. Nice cards once again :)
I would look on the web for flights & sign up to airlines for email updates of specials - sometimes they have really good 'buy today' specials & if you are in a position to take advantage of one of these it could be a good way to go if you are not in a hurry to book.
Sewing machine wise I would take my time & find a good brand like Janome, Bernina, Brother, Elna & the like & probably get a mid range model. Are there any on the second hand market? At the sewing machine agents shops which have been trade ins? You would find a cheapie brand really frustrating once you really get going as it would not sew as nicely as you would like. You need one that you can attach a quarter inch foot, a darning foot & maybe a walking foot, if they are not included, you need to make sure you can buy them as extras & that you can get them for that machine.

Sorry to write an essay again & issue so many "you needs", but I would hate it for you to find these things out after you have bought something :)

    1. No need to apologise, this is what I was asking for.

Bit scared to go into a Bona Fide sewing machine shop, in case I don't understand what they are saying and I'd be too embarassed to say, if they are all too rich for my pocket!! Need to put my Brave coat on.
