Never Go To Bed Alone

Whether your married or single, there is never a need to go to Bed alone, when you could take a good book with you. Well what did you think I meant?

"Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend.
Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read."
Groucho Marx

Apparently, according to my sources, mainly my Mum, I learnt to read at a very early age and I could not bear to be stopped in the middle of a book. I started reading when I was 3 years old and would hide in cupboards, under the dining table, in the shed, and other assorted places with a book and a torch. It must have been very frustrating when everyone else was ready to go out and I could not be found.

I absolutely love books and whilst I haven't read much in the past 12 months, in the past 38 years I have read hundreds of books. I am quite a fast reader and used to get through a reasonable length novel in 3 - 4 days.

Of the BBC's Big Read Top 100 books, the BBC believe that most people will only have read 6 of the books. I find this very hard to believe myself. Take a look at the list and tell me how many you have read. http://www.bbc.co.uk/arts/bigread/top100.shtml   I have read 43 of them, so still a lot for me to go at.

I have wanted a Kindle for quite a few years, as it's a much easier way of storing books (my attic is already chocabloc!!) and they are slightly cheaper than buying. Although I do try and get them from the library, but a Kindle is also lighter to hold when lying in bed. However, I have always known that a Kindle was a luxury item that just wasn't justified.

Imagine my surprise then when this is what I received from DH & Sons for Christmas 2011.

I think because I really wasn't expecting to recieve it, not like the things that we drop hints we want for Christmas, but it was something I would really love, it was all the more exciting a present to get. Thankfully I also received from other family members, who were all in on the secret, some Amazon vouchers to buy books to get me started.

So what am I reading at the moment? 4 Books, "Shoot the Damn Dog", by Sally Brampton, "Captain Corelli's Mandolin", by Louis de Berniere, another one to cross off the Top 100, "Will I ever be Good Enough?" by Dr Karyl McBride and I'm working my way through all Lee Childs books about his fictional character Jack Reacher, currently on "The Enemy".

Other authors I love are Clive Cussler, Jodi Picoult and Maeve Binchy.

So tell me, what are you reading and which authors do you love?

In the words of Shirley Bassey (well almost!)

" To All the Books I've Loved Before,
Who've travelled in and out my door,
I'm glad they came along,
I dedicate this blog,
To All the Books I've loved before.

To all the Books I once caressed,
and may I say I've held the best,
for helping me to grow,
I owe a lot I know,
to all the Books I've Loved Before"

I now need to go back to making a few cards as payment for tomorrow's crochet lesson. Here's the first of them:-

I don't know how many more I can get done before midnight, but Au Revoir for now.

Lots of Love Arwedd xx

    1. No, I think it was written down in 2003 and is a permanent list, but I'm not all that sure!? I'm sure there are plenty of new books that should make it on to there in time.

    1. I really am delighted that I have any Followers at all!! I have some difficult people close to me and so it really does mean a lot to me that at least someone out there values me, even if those others don't!! I'm welling up, so should stop being sentimental and pull myself together, *sniff*, suffice it to say thank you so much!

    1. 53 is definitely very good. Ashamed to say DH had only read one, so I guess he is one of the ones bringing our average down!! I'm not sure whether the gender issue is a big factor in reading? I know my Dad will read a book, but other men I know aren't interested unless its a car manual...lol

Definitely having a breakthrough on the crochet front.

I've been hinting for a Kindle for my 50th birthday present :)
