Well I had a go at making the same Lemon Drizzle Cake today that I made with the lovely Frugal Queen yesterday.
8oz Eggs, 8oz, flour, 8oz sugar and 8oz butter, plus the rind of two lemons, with lemon curd filling. It's definitely not as light and fluffy as yesterday's cake and the two halves are much flatter. Don't get me wrong, it's going down better than anything I have made so far, but it's not as good somehow. I did follow the steps exactly, so I am confused as to why.
I also bought two 22cm metal pie tins for £1.99 each today, ready for the Chicken & Chorizo pies. Just waiting on next week's shopping to arrive for those ingredients. I didn't think that was too costly.
I had a lovely morning helping to teach at Sunday School earlier today. We were learning about Daniel and the lions with 5 to 9 yr olds, mine included. The kids are fabulous and they come out with the most amazing things. It is slightly frustrating that your own child seems to want to mess about and show off when you are leading though. I'm sure he's not like that during someone else's month.
Update on the Crochet Blankets - work on Crochet Blanket 1 (the colourful squares), has stopped while I try and get Crochet Blanket 2 to look like I have done anything on it at all. It has gone from a very thin long strip to a marginally wider long strip. It feels like it is taking forever to make any progress and I think maybe I should not have gone so wide for my first/2nd project. I am currently contemplating making the width, the length instead. I am slightly concerned about the edges as they are not very even, so I think I will have to learn how to do some proper edging before I can finish it off. What do you think?
Weather forecast for tomorrow, "Rain clearing away allowing a few bright spells in the morning, but soon
becoming cloudy with showers, often heavy and maybe thundery in the
afternoon. Maximum temperature 14 °C". So much for doing something special for the Bank Holiday! We were hoping to go for a bike ride or moor walking, but it is likely to be pretty miserable around here. Shame!
What have you got planned for your extra day off?
what a lovely result of your talent!
ReplyDeletemy hands just won't respond to my brain when it comes to knitting or crocheting! I admire you!
I love the name of your blog.
but I hate verification!
Thank you. My hands and oddly my elbows are suffering a bit with the all the new crocheting, but I am loving it.
DeleteI don't think I have verification, do I?

Arwedd, remember that the type of spoon used and humidty have an effect on baking.

I didn't know that. It is definitely warmer in my kitchen than Frugal Queen's as she doesn't use the heating.

Well done with the crochet - but rows that long would do me in big time! The cake looks good, is there a raising agent in it?
ReplyDeleteSorry to say, you do have verification :)
No 8oz eggs, 8oz S/r flour, 8oz sugar and 8oz butter. The long rows are getting to me a bit.

I am SO proud of you, my pupil!!
ReplyDeleteDon't fret about ANYTHING homemade being perfect, or ever compare it: homemade is just that.
Each time I sew or knit or bake something it is NOT perfect - that's why it doesn't come in plastic from a factory.
Homemade with love is SO much better xxx
I am a bit of a perfectionist and worry someone could buy better quality. I need to add that to my learning list, learn to let things not be perfect. Odd because I much prefer to receive something handmade, just not confident others would.

Hello my lovely xxxx did you use a hand mixer like we did, or a spoon? the mixer gets more air into it. Also, every oven is different from yours, so is every self raising flour. Also, like Foster Mummy said, don't compare we cook in our homes and not factories. There's no quality control, just hungry tummies. Your cake looks fine and I can't see anything wrong with it. Everytime I cook something, it's often nothing like the last time I cooked it, it doesn't matter. I think you did really well xxxxxxxxxxx You're also welcome back at any time for any more cooking or quilting xxxxx
ReplyDeleteWould love to come back again, thank you so much. I thought I had used s/r flour, but now I'm wondering if I did actually use plain? Will try again a.s.a.p.

Couldn't agree with previous comments more. Homemade is better because it isn't all the same as everyone else's. If it's going down well that's all that matters.
ReplyDeleteThank you, it's not racing out but it is going down slowly.

The cake looks great and so does the blanket. I can never get rows even, having not yet worked out which stitch to start in. I don't know which is the top of each stitch yet. Is it the one after or the one before. and does it really matter. I'd put a border round and that would finish it off nicely. Why don't you go for the BIG blanket which was your first idea. It may take a little longer but has anybody given you a dead line? It's finished when it's finished. I find it wonderful that you're beavering away. Forget what other people expect or think, just go with your flow and be proud of it.
